Nutmeg is an aromatic spice often used in desserts and savory dishes alike. This spice is also a powerful hallucinogenic drug that causes convulsions, seizures, and nutmeg psychosis. The latter can be fatal if not treated right away.
You see, nutmeg contains myristicin, a compound that causes temporary hallucinations. This chemical causes incessant vomiting, dizziness, profuse sweating and a pounding headache. Although the effects will wear off, there are reported cases wherein myristicin ingestion led to death.
