1. Macrobiotic Diet
Developed in the hip-and-happening ‘60s, this diet is all about balance. It’s based on the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang where you should eat equal amounts of both foods. The Macrobiotic Diet comprises of foods that are rich in nutrients but low in calories.

Whole grains make up 40 to 60 percent of the diet. Vegetables comprise 20 to 30 percent with the exception of spinach, tomato, eggplant, asparagus, and zucchini. The remaining 5 to 10 percent of your diet should include beans, bean products, or sea vegetables. Seafood, pickled products, nuts, and fresh fruits (except tropical fruits) may be eaten occasionally. Rice syrup is the only sweetener you can use. Processed foods, refined sugars, fruit juices, eggs, poultry, meats, and dairy are not allowed.
