5 Energizing Tips to Beat Fatigue

Fatigue is described as a general feeling of weakness, extreme exhaustion, and tiredness. This condition is a result of mental or physical exertion or an underlying disease such as heart disease, thyroid disease, arthritis, and diabetes. Before finding ways to boost energy, it is important to determine the root cause of fatigue. In today’s post, we are listing down ways to banish fatigue and boost energy:

1. Check Your Meds

Again, fatigue can be a symptom of a serious condition so if you are taking prescription medications, these drugs could be draining energy from your body. Medications, such as hypertension meds, allergy drugs, and diuretics, are notorious for causing extreme exhaustion. If you think prescription medications could be the culprit behind your lack of energy, ask your doctor for alternative meds.

2. Work Out Regularly

The last thing you want to do when you don’t have the energy for it is to work out but regular exercise helps boost energy and promote mental clarity! Studies show that consistent exercising is linked to improved vigor and enhanced overall quality of life. People who work out regularly are stronger, more confident. Working out strengthens the muscles, heart and lungs while stimulating the brain. The rush of blood to the organs has an energizing effect on the entire body!  Banish fatigue by working out at least three times per week. Start with a 30-minute walk and then progress to more intensive workout once you are mentally and physically ready.

3. Try Meditative Exercises

If say, advanced training is not your cup of tea, you can always opt for meditative workouts like Yoga, Pilates, and Ta- Chi to boost energy. Meditative exercises help promote mental clarity. It minimizes daytime sleepiness, reduces mental fatigue, and prevents brain fogginess. Workouts like Yoga and Pilates boosts flexibility, strengthens the muscles, and promotes better blood circulation. All these increase energy so you stay active and energized all day! And it is never too late to practice yoga. Studies show that older men and women ages 65 to 85 years old saw an increased sense of well-being and a boost in energy after practicing yoga for just 6 months.

4. Drink Up

Did you know dehydration is one of the most common causes of chronic fatigue? When the body is lacking fluids, the muscles cannot work properly. Studies show that dehydration can also affect mental health. Those who are not drinking up more water will experience decreased alertness, mental fogginess, and daytime sleepiness. Water helps lubricate the muscles, flush out cellular waste, and promote better blood circulation. You need to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to stay hydrated. Drink more if you work out regularly!

5. Catch Up on Sleep

If you made the habit out of sleeping late, then sleepiness will catch up with you in the mornings. Daytime fatigue is caused by sleep deprivation. Unfortunately, lack of sleep could lead to a variety of health problems because the body does not have enough time to heal itself. Apart from sleeping early in the evening, you can beat daytime fatigue by taking a 20-minute nap and avoiding caffeinated beverages at least 4 hours before bedtime.
