Not all of us are blessed with full lips. Unfortunately, there’s no way to achieve fuller, plumper lips without resorting to lip injections. But don’t fret! In today’s post, we are listing down super easy ways to improve the lip shape and achieve the illusion of plush pout:

1. Regular Exfoliation

Exfoliation does wonders for the body, including the lips. Gently sloughing off dead skin cells improves blood circulation. This gives exfoliation a lasting plumping effect. You can exfoliate the lips three different ways: using a toothbrush, a washcloth or a lip scrub.

If you’re using a washcloth or a toothbrush, wet the lips with water first. The water will soften dead skin cells. With gentle circular motion, scrub the lips. Once you’re done exfoliating, follow up with a hydrating lip balm.

If you’re using a DIY sugar scrub, mix equal parts honey and sugar in a clean mixing bowl. With your clean fingertip, dot the mixture directly on moistened lips. With light pressure, massage the gritty scrub on the lips. Rinse well. Follow up with a lip balm after exfoliation.

2. Lining over the Lips

This is an excellent makeup trick to exaggerate or minimize the lip line. You can use this trick to add shape or definition to the lips too. Use a liner in a color that’s identical or close to your lipstick color. Define the shape of your lips by lining slightly over the natural lip shape. Once you have the right shape, color the rest of the lips with the liner. This will help prevent that annoying line you get when the lipstick wears off. It will also improve the staying power of your lipstick.

Now, apply your favorite lipstick. Blot with a tissue then reapply the lipstick. Get a concealer brush and with a concealer, clean up the edges of your lips.

3. Adding Depth

You can also achieve the illusion of fuller lips by layering a nude or light color lipstick over a darker lipstick. Again, line the lips with a lip liner. Apply a thin layer of lip liner to the rest of the lips. Then, apply the matching lip color, blot and reapply.

Now, apply a nude colored lipstick or lip cream on the middle of your upper and lower lips. With a brush or fingertips, blend the lighter lipstick over the darker lipstick. This will create a seamless finish. Top with your favorite lip gloss to amplify the plumping effect of the lipstick.

4. Lip Plumpers

Any type of spicy or minty lip product could boost lip plumpness. Some brands offer lip products designed to increase the lip size. These products are made with a concoction of herbs and essential oils. Just apply the product generously. The tingling sensation means it’s working.

You can also use peppermint or cinnamon oil to replicate the effects of store-bought lip plumpers. Just apply the product thinly on the lips. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes then rinse well. Do this twice per week to achieve fuller lips naturally.

5. Lip Exercises

Performing lip exercises daily will improve lip shape and plumpness. Whistle for at least four minutes several times per day. This helps tone the muscles under the lips. Pressing your lips together for at least five seconds also helps improve lip shape.
