
There are thousands of fad diets hitting the market every month. These diets come in various forms, all promising a gorgeous figure in half the time. Unfortunately, not all of these diet fads are proven effective. Worse, some are downright dangerous to the health! If you tried a diet fad in the past, you know how underwhelming the results could be. So how come some diet programs or products do not work as claimed? Let’s find out:
1. Hard to Stick To
Most diet programs are very restrictive. These programs either require hard-to-find foods or limit a dieter’s calorie consumption to a minimum. Some diet programs even inhibit the consumption of entire food groups, banishing healthy foods from a person’s diet! Because of the sometimes-unrealistic restrictions, dieters are unable to integrate the plan fully into their lives.

2. Unproven Methods
If diet supplements are not FDA approved as a weight loss product, there is a good chance that they will not work for you. Why? FDA approved products have gone through multiple clinical trials conducted by the scientific community. These products are thoroughly tested for efficacy and safety. Diet pills and supplements are not tested as thoroughly so companies are left marketing these products with unproven claims. Be wary of these products because some diet pills cause dangerous side effects.
3. Does Not Promote a Healthy Lifestyle
Most diet programs – especially rapid weight loss plans – do not work because they do not promote a healthy lifestyle. Most dieters are left starving themselves instead of working out to reduce weight. Although rapid weight loss programs promote weight loss, the tradeoff is dangerous to the health. Worse, you are likely to gain all the weight you lost once you go back to your normal eating habits. This creates a vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting.
4. Not Customized
Some dieters get better results from a high protein diet while others prefer a low carb diet. This shows that every person responds to a certain diet program differently. Most diet programs do not work because they are not suitable to needs of dieters. These programs are not suitable for a specific lifestyle nor do they address certain concerns. For a diet program to work, it must be developed according to your needs and lifestyle.
5. Expensive
Let’s face it, some diet programs are very expensive. For instance, there are diet programs that require the consumption of multiple supplements and shakes from a specific brand. Others require expensive items such as exotic grains, expensive proteins, or other products that are not simply accessible in your local area.
6. Unrealistic Claims
Most diet companies are guilty of hyping up their products to lure in more customers. Diet companies are no exemption. Most companies will use unproven claims, statistics, or small clinical tests to make their fantastical claims seem believable. They exaggerate certain facts about the product while conveniently leaving out references to verify their claims. The fact is, if a certain product sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do not waste your money on these products if they are making unrealistic claims otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure.
