A strong immune system makes the body resistant to pathogens. Our immune system is the body’s first line of defense against viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. A weakened immune system paves the way for pathogens to attack healthy cells, causing sickness, including painful joints and fever.

Unfortunately, there is no pill that can truly strengthen the immune system. You have to consume healthy foods to promote a strong immune system. You can also turn to holistic methods to keep the body resistant from common infections. In today’s post, we are listing down some of the best alternative forms of medicine that promote immunity.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative form of healing that utilizes all-natural remedies to address a variety of health problems, including a weakened immune system. When the body is exposed to pathogens and the immune system is weakened, inflammation will start spreading to various parts of the body. And when this happens, you will experience high fever, joint pain, and extreme fatigue. These symptoms are the body’s response to antigens.

Homeopathy remedies are meant to stimulate immunity response and support healing. These remedies help activate various pathways in the body to flush out the offending pathogens that cause sickness. Most homeopathic practitioners recommend consuming five fruits and vegetables every day to boost immunity.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM. This method of healing has been practiced for thousands of years. TCM is surprisingly sophisticated in its approach to healing certain ailments. As early as the 11th century, the Chinese were already using nasal vaccination to prevent smallpox!

According to TCM, to promote stronger immunity, an acupuncturist must stimulate the body’s line of defense, the wei qi. The wei qi prevents infection from spreading into the body. Long before viruses and bacteria were discovered by modern medicine, TCM practitioners were already treating pathogens. Acupuncture helps stimulate the wei qi by inserting thin needles to various medians in the body.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient form of healing observed in the Indian subcontinent. This holistic approach to healing utilizes a combination of herbs and tonics to promote healing. In Ayurveda, the health features seven tissue layers of dhatus. These tissue layers are Rasa (lymph), Rakta (blood), Mamsa (muscle), Medha (fat), Asthi (bone), Majja (bone marrow) and Shukra (semen/reproductive tissue). These tissue layers are responsible for the state of our immunity. Each layer feeds on the next layer, which ultimately determines the strength of a person’s immune system. The final essence of building these tissues is called Ojas.

Ojas means sap, life juice or inner vitality in Sanskrit. This life juice protects the body and sustains the health. Ojas also determines a person’s mental and physical health. By building ojas, the body becomes more resistant to diseases.

To achieve stronger immunity, you must eat foods that detoxify the body. Refining your food choices and promoting a healthy mindset are key to strong immunity in Ayurveda. However, do note that there is not a single treatment that can heal all ailments in Ayurveda. The treatments are personalized according to the needs of the patient.
