Regardless of your reasons for getting one, there are factors to consider before buying a wig. And in today’s post, we are giving you tips and tricks to get the right wig that suits your face shape and natural coloring:

Shopping by Cut and Style

Wigs come in all shapes and sizes. They vary in length and texture. When shopping for your own wig, consider those that complement your face shape first. For instance, if you have an oval-shaped face, you can get away with most wig styles! If your face is round, choose wigs with linear designs, etc.

Choosing the Hair type

There are two types of wigs: wigs made with human hair and synthetic hair. Wigs made with real human hair is more expensive than wigs with synthetic hair. The former looks realistic, it’s easier to manage and comes in a wide array of textures and styles. Of all types of wigs made from natural hair, the most popular is Remy hair. Remy hair’s cuticles remain intact so the wig is shiny and natural looking. Wigs made from real hair is also popular among cancer patients, those with alopecia and individuals who want to achieve natural-looking tresses.

Synthetic hair wig comes in a more diverse selection of colors. However, it’s not as realistic-looking as wigs made from human hair. Even from afar, you can tell a wearer has a synthetic wig on for its unnatural shininess and texture. Usually, colorful wigs made from synthetic hair are used for costumes, cosplay, etc.

Quality and Comfort

How to tell if a wig is made from high-quality materials or not? Check the wear. If it’s uncomfortable, the wig is not well made. A well-made wig should be comfortable to wear. It should be made from breathable fabric so the heat won’t be trapped between it and your head. High-quality wigs will last longer because the materials are more durable.

Torn between hand-made or machine-made wigs? If you want to achieve natural-looking results, choose handmade wigs. Machine-made wigs are less expensive than handmade wigs, but the latter gives natural-looking results. Handmade wigs are also more comfortable to wear than machine-made wigs.

As for cap size, it should fit the head comfortably. To check your right size, you’ll have to measure the circumference of your head. Start from the front of the hairline into behind the ear and the nape of your neck. Cap sizes vary from shop to shop. Customized wigs offer the best fit.

Costs

Wigs do not come cheap. However, don’t let cost be the sole deciding factor when buying a wig. If say, you are getting a wig to change your look, you can always compare rates to get the best possible deals. However, if you’re getting a wig to conceal hair loss from a medical condition or chemotherapy, check your health insurance coverage. Some health insurance policies cover the cost for wigs.

If wigs are necessary for you because of a medical condition, you can also check for organizations that donate the cost of wigs.
