Struggling with acne? You can use ointments to deal with breakouts. Cortisone creams help reduce inflammation. Hydroquinone can be used to fade the scars. But if you want to use super mild yet effective remedies to fade out scars, you don’t have to look far and wide. Go to your kitchen and use these common household products to eliminate acne scars:

Egg Whites

Did you know egg whites contain natural compounds that heal scars and fade out dark marks? That’s why egg whites are such effective remedy for acne scars! The stuff is loaded with amino acids and proteins that tighten pores and prevent breakouts. These compounds also lighten the skin and makes scars less visible.

To use egg whites to fade out acne scars, get a clean bowl. Whip three egg whites until frothy. With clean fingers, spread the whipped egg whites to your freshly cleansed face. Focus on the problem areas. Let the whole thing dry for at least 10 minutes and rinse away with lukewarm water. Do this twice or thrice a week for best results.

Baking Soda

Just like egg whites, baking soda is an effective skin lightener. The granules also double as a skin exfoliator. Exfoliation is important in fading out scars. By sloughing away dead skin cells, the acne scars become less noticeable.

To use baking soda to lighten acne scars, mix a small amount with water to make a paste. With clean fingers, gently massage the paste on your clean face. Cover the entire face and leave on for at least a minute. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow up with a skin moisturizer. Do this twice or thrice per week depending on your exfoliation routine.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice contains powerful fruit acids that lighten scars, refine the skin texture and restore the skin’s youthful glow! The juice contains lactic, glycolic acids and citric acids. These fruit acids are used in most skin care products. Apart from destroying microbes that cause acne, lemon juice also removes dead skin cells and lightens scars.

To use lemon juice to address scarring, take a clean bowl and juice three lemons. Get a cotton ball and saturate it with the juice. Dab the cotton ball on the affected area. Do this twice per week until scars lighten and disappear. If you have sensitive skin, reduce the frequency of application.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera contains soothing ingredients that heal skin traumas and abrasions. It reduces inflammation, promotes cell regeneration and prevents breakouts. When it comes to fading dark marks from acne, we recommend using fresh aloe vera gel. Scrape it straight from the plant and apply on a freshly cleansed face. Leave the gel on for 10 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is one of the most nutritious plant oils there are! It’s rich in vitamin A, D, C, B1, B2 and E. All these nutrients work in unison to repair, soothe and heal an acne-prone skin. Olive oil is also loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents to minimize acne breakouts and fade scars.

To use olive oil as acne scar treatment, massage a couple of olive oil drops on the face. Massaging promotes cell regeneration and blood circulation. It also helps sink the oil deep into the skin. Now, drape a warm washcloth over the face to open up the pores. Once the pores are open, they will soak up the oil. Don’t worry, this won’t break you out, it does the exact opposite. Do this once or twice before going to bed.
