Most types of diet programs rely on banning certain food groups to promote weight loss. For example, Atkins diet requires more animal protein as opposed to carbohydrates to lose weight.

But there are some diet programs that work to a specific body type. Such diets include the one developed by Elliot D. Abravanel and Elizabeth King Morrison. This diet program was based on the bestselling book, “Dr. Abravanel’s Body Type Diet and Nutritional Plan.”

According to Elliot D. Abravanel and Elizabeth King Morrison, there are four kinds of body types: gonad, adrenal, pituitary and thyroid. Each group requires specific dietary recommendations to boost the metabolic rate and facilitate weight loss. The book will give you tips on how to tell your own body type. In today’s post, we are listing down ways to lose weight according to the body types listed in the book.

The Gonad Body Type

Based on the book, people that belong to the Gonad type should eat foods that stimulate the thyroid and pituitary glands. According to Elliot D. Abravanel, certain types of foods stimulate specific kinds of body organs. By eating these foods, you unlock the fullest powers of your own body organs.

In this case, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains stimulate the thyroid and pituitary glands. Low-fat dairy, fish, and refined grains are allowed but keep the portions small. Those who belong to the Gonad type body weight should avoid red meat, high-calorie sweets and food with butter or cream. The book also says that of all body types, the Gonad type is the most suitable for a vegetarian lifestyle.

The Adrenal Body Type

The Adrenal body type requires a low-fat, high-vegetable diet. Just like the Gonad body type, those who belong to the Adrenal body type can eat low fat dairy, legumes and whole grains. You can also eat vegetables and eggs. Fish and poultry should be taken in moderation. Fatty foods, red meat, and salty foods are not allowed. The same thing goes for shellfish and dishes made with butter. All these foods tend to over-stimulate the adrenal gland. If you’re eating animal protein, the meat has to be boiled, baked or grilled. All visible fat should be removed.

The Pituitary Body Type

According to Elliot D. Abravanel, you have to eat high protein foods to stimulate the pituitary gland. He recommends a balanced diet plenty of meats – including lamb, beef, and pork – as well as fruits and vegetables. Poultry, legumes, and whole grains are also recommended. The book also notes that those who belong to this body type usually crave cheese. However, consumption of dairy products should be limited. The same thing goes for caffeinated beverages or foods made with refined carbohydrates. The meal plan aims to promote pituitary gland stimulation to boost weight loss.

The Thyroid Body Type

As for the thyroid body type, the key is to minimize the stimulation of the thyroid. Those who belong to this body type tend to crave caffeinated drinks and sweets. Your meal plan should include plenty of fish, poultry and shellfish. You can also eat eggs, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products. Legumes, whole grains, and red meat should be limited. Completely avoid drinks and foods that are high in sugar, caffeine, and refined grains.
