Add Greens to Your Favorite Dishes

If you hate the idea of eating heaping serving of veggies, why not puree the greens and add the mixture to soups? This is one of the most painless ways to eat healthy while overcoming the distinct taste of greens. Just follow your favorite soup recipe then, add half a cup of veggie puree and you’re done.

Add Dips

Can’t get yourself to eat raw veggies? Why not pair it with your favorite dips? You can also use any sauces that will enhance the flavor of the vegetable. For example, you can serve fresh slices of cucumber with apple cider vinegar mixed with a hint of sugar. The tartness of the cider vinegar and the sweetness of sugar will complement the distinct “green” taste of cucumber. You can also use ranch dressing or blue cheese as a dip for sliced carrots or celery. You can also pair celery sticks with peanut butter, it’s a surprisingly tasty snack!

Juice Your Veggies

Green juice is loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals. Just a glass is all you need to obtain all the essential nutrients you need for the day. Juicing makes it easier to eat your greens too. You can add certain types of fruits to the juice to add sweetness to your drink.

Better Cooking Preparations

Let’s face it, boiled broccoli doesn’t really look appetizing at all. Boiling also diminishes the nutritional value of the vegetables. Plus, it looks boring. So why not challenge yourself? Look for ways to prepare vegetables to make them look more appetizing.

For instance, instead of boiling corn, why not grill it them add a hint of butter? Grilling will impart a certain smokiness to the corn. You can also make your own fruit and vegetable kebobs! Experiment with mushrooms by pairing it with different cheeses, see what exciting new flavors you can create!

Taming Strong “Green” Flavors

Part of the reason why most people hate veggies is the strong, unappetizing “green” flavor. Cruciferous vegetables, in particular, have a strong green taste. Keep in mind that the longer you cook vegetables, the stronger the flavor becomes. Instead of overcooking green leafy vegetables, why not experiment in the kitchen? Studies show that those who hate cruciferous vegetables (dark green, leafy vegetables) are sensitive to a substance called PROP. PROP gives cruciferous vegetables a bitter aftertaste.
