Fat Flush Diet: Lose Weight By Activating The Liver

Fat Flush diet is a type of liver cleansing diet developed by nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman. Gittleman developed this diet program after working at the Pritikin Longevity Center. She observed how the facility imposes a low-fat program, but patients are not getting the results they expected.

This diet program is a combination of detoxification and weight loss in a low-carbohydrate, restricted calorie diet. The concept behind it is to activate the liver’s fat-burning abilities through a specific combination of foods taken at a specific eating schedule. This will help boost the metabolic rate, causing the body to burn off more fat.

The program comes in three phases. Each one works specifically to prep the liver and lymphatic system for optimal fat-burning and detoxification.

Fat Flush Diet Phases

Phase 1

The initial phase is meant to detoxify the system. You have to drink eight glasses of cranberry juice and water mixture each day to prevent water retention. In addition, the caloric intake is limited to only 1100 to 1200. All types of wheat and dairy products are strictly prohibited.

Phase 2

The second phase is aimed towards continuous weight loss. From here, the caloric allowance is increased. You can gradually introduce complex carbohydrates into your diet. However, processed grains are a complete no-no.

Phase 3

The last phase of the fat flush diet is called the “Lifestyle Eating Plan.” This phase is aimed at lifetime weight control. Just like the 2nd phase, the caloric intake is slightly increased, adopting a diet ratio of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. Dairy consumption remains limited.

Do note that the fat flush diet requires regular, albeit short, exercises. During the first two phases, you have to walk for 20 to 30 minutes five times per week as well as 100 jumping jacks daily on a mini trampoline. During the final phase, you have to perform bits of strength training.

We recommend keeping a daily diet diary to track your progress. Finally, this diet program requires you to take various vitamin supplements to prevent nutrient deficiencies.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Fat Flush Diet

This program promotes weight loss by training the body to eat healthily. It requires lots of dark green veggies, fiber-rich fruits, and healthy fats. It also promotes an active lifestyle. This accelerates weight loss.

It takes a lot of discipline to stick to the diet and this is one of the disadvantages of the fat flush diet. The fat flush diet also requires limited caloric intake. And the fact that the diet requires regular exercise on top of a calorie restrictive diet makes it extra difficult to commit to. Eating out is out of the question when you’re following the fat flush diet.

Finally, there’s the cost of the supplements themselves. The supplements that come with the kit are quite pricey.

But is it effective?

Yes, this diet program is effective. However, its effectiveness lies in the calorie-restrictive nature of the diet on top of exercising. It’s not scientifically proven to eliminate fat by activating the liver.
