Gas, flatulence and bloating are caused by gas buildup in the stomach. Gases – such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane – are produced by the breakdown of the food you eat. While gas is normal, too much of it can lead to embarrassing chronic flatulence and belching. In today’s post, we are listing down ways to reduce gas, flatulence and bloating without using drugs:

Ginger

Ginger is an excellent remedy for excessive gas. This herb regulates gas production while also minimizing bloating and belching. Ginger contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that ease digestion and stimulate more efficient breakdown of food. Taking ginger tea or fresh slices of ginger keeps the intestines clean and empty. When there’s less food left behind the stomach, less gas is produced.

To take ginger tea, simply boil fresh slices of the herb in a pot of water. Let the solution steep for at least 10 minutes before drinking. You can also take a ginger capsule or grate fresh ginger and add it to a cup of warm water.

Cardamom

Cardamom is an aromatic herb often used in baked goods and Indian cuisine. This spice is teeming with nutrients that ease gas production and improves digestion. It helps the stomach digest food properly so the stomach is able to empty itself at a much faster rate. When there’s less food in the stomach, generation of gas is reduced significantly. Apart from regulating the digestion, cardamom also reduces intestinal gas to reduce flatulence.

To use cardamom to reduce gas, bloating and flatulence, add the spice on boiling water. Let it steep for 10 minutes and drink the solution after eating. You can also chew fresh cardamom before a meal.

Peppermint

Peppermint is a traditional remedy for flatulence and excessive gas. This herb contains menthol, which minimizes bloating and gas. If you are prone to painful gas and smelly flatulence, we recommend drinking peppermint tea before a meal. But don’t go overboard, too much peppermint causes gastroesophageal reflux or heartburn.

Papaya

Papaya contains soothing nutrients that lubricate the intestines, regulate bowel movement and reduce intestinal gas effectively. This tropical fruit is a rich source of vitamin A, C, E and K. It also contains antioxidants and flavonoids that regulate digestion. Papaya also contains an enzyme called papain. Papain helps in the breakdown of proteins, eliminating gas in the intestines and stomach effectively.

To treat gas, flatulence and bloating with papaya, just eat a slice of the fruit after a meal or take it in tea form.

Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds have the same effect on the gastrointestinal tract as cardamom. The seeds help banish excess gas and reduce flatulence. Fennel seeds contain terpenoid anethole, a chemical that aids in digestion. It relieves stomach cramps and painful accumulation of gas. To use fennel seeds as a remedy for bloating and gas, just chew the seeds after every meal. As an added bonus, chewing fennel seeds help eliminate bad breath!

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea contains soothing botanicals that ease an upset stomach caused by excessive gas. It helps neutralize abdominal gas and prevent bloating. To use chamomile as a remedy for gas and bloating, take the tea before or after every meal.
