The right underwear is important when working out. When you exercise, sweat accumulates in various parts of the body, including the groin area. To ensure a comfortable workout, you have to choose the best underwear material according to your needs. But with so many materials to choose from, which ones should you get? In today’s post, we are listing down all the essential factors you need to consider when choosing the right workout undies for you:

Benefits of Wearing the Right Workout Undies

Protection from Groin Injuries

Working out puts an enormous stress on the groin area, especially if you are lifting weights. The wrong kind of underwear could cause muscle strain as you exercise, causing groin injuries! Wearing the right kind of underwear reduces the risks associated with intense exercises.

Wicks Away Moisture

You sweat a lot when you work out. That is why you have to wear clothes made from breathable fabrics that wick away moisture from the skin. The wrong kind of underwear material increases the risk of skin infection and fungal growth because it could trap the moisture in the groin area.

Ill-fitting workout undies will make exercising a nightmare. As you work out, the insides of your thigh area will rub against each other. The wrong kind of undies will cause chafing because of the constant friction between the skin. Wearing the right undies help reduce friction that could lead to painful chafing.

Workout Undies According to Material

Cotton undies make great gym undies because the material is breathable and light. Cotton wicks away moisture from the skin, allowing sweat to evaporate. A Belgian study noted that cotton workout undies give off less post-workout body odor than polyester because the material is made from natural fibers.

Bamboo pulp yields a silky, all-natural fabric that’s just as light and breathable as cotton. And unlike cotton, bamboo silk protects the skin from UV rays. Bamboo makes an ideal workout material because it repels bad odors; it also regulates body temperature and wicks away moisture from the skin. Of course, bamboo fabric is more expensive than cotton and polyester.

Polyester is one of the most commonly used workout materials. This material is made from a durable and wrinkle-resistant plastic cloth. It is breathable and lightweight. Polyester even insulates when it is wet. However, polyester is not the most comfortable workout materials there are.

Microfiber contains very fine fibers that make the material lightweight and supple. These fibers do a great job of absorbing moisture and enhancing airflow to let the skin breathe. As such, microfiber makes an excellent material for workout undies.

Coolmax is made from a polyester blend, creating a shrink, wrinkle, and fade resistant. The material is light, keeping the skin comfortable even during an intense workout. However, Coolmax needs air to evaporate sweat so it is bet used outdoors.

Spandex is a synthetic fabric made from polyurethane. This material is a favorite among runners and cyclists because of its comfortable fit, elasticity, and lightness. However, it does not absorb body and natural oils very well.
