When it comes to caring for your skin, never focus on the face alone. You don’t want to end up with smooth facial skin and wrinkly neck! And unlike facial wrinkles, neck wrinkles are extremely hard to smooth out once they develop. So prevention is always better than the cure.
The skin on the neck is just as sensitive as the skin on your face. Also, the skin on this area is almost always exposed to the sun. The sun’s harsh rays destroy skin tissues, causing sagginess and deep wrinkles that are hard to correct. To prevent this, give your neck the same treatment as your facial skin. Also, keep these tips in mind:
Even Out the Skin Tone
Aging skin is prone to age spots or liver spots. Although harmless, they are very hard to cover up. Age spots are caused by overexposure to the sun, genetics and other environmental factors. Evening out the skin tone helps prevent wrinkles and blotchy neck skin. We recommend using mild bleaching agents – such as kojic acid, glycolic acid or licorice – to fade dark spots and boost cell regeneration in this area. Increasing the cell turnover rate helps prevent deep wrinkles and evens out the skin tone!
Anti-Aging Skin Care Products
The neck skin is especially prone to wrinkles so use anti-aging skin care products. We recommend those enriched with retinol or alpha hydroxyl acids. These skin creams will penetrate deep into the skin layers to smooth out wrinkles, restore suppleness and boost collagen production. However, if you have very sensitive neck skin, we recommend limiting the application of anti-aging creams to every third evening. Once your skin becomes accustomed to the product, gradually shift to nightly application.
Don’t just wear sunscreen on your face, slather some on the neck and décolletage too! Don’t scrimp on product, slather sunscreen thick and reapply every two hours. Most dermatologists agree sun block is the real fountain of youth. Wearing sunscreen every day helps prevent age spots, wrinkles, and lackluster skin. It will literally preserve the youthfulness of your skin. We recommend a sun block with an SPF of 50 or above for better results.
Keeping the skin super hydrated also prevents wrinkles. Apart from drinking more than 8 glasses of water each day, use moisturizers enriched with peptides and retinol on the neck. These ingredients will boost the production of collagen and stimulate cell turnover. Hydrating face creams also repair damaged skin and tighten saggy skin. Finally, use your favorite face serum on the neck too.
Massage Your Neck Skin
Massage your neck gently with your fingertips in circular motion. This will stimulate blood flow and increase firmness. Use your favorite beauty oil (we love Argan or extra virgin coconut oil) to massage this area. Smoothen a few drops of beauty oil on the neck skin and start the massage. Do this every night. The massaging action coupled with hydrating beauty oil will boost moisture and improve skin elasticity!
Doing bits of neck exercises will firm up the skin too. Try sitting and lifting your head towards the ceiling. Then, pucker your lips. The motion will activate the neck muscles. Another excellent neck workout is to stick out your tongue. Try to touch chin with your tongue. Hold the position for several seconds until you feel the tension in the neck area.
