Dark, discolored under eyes and puffy eyes are caused by many things. Apart from the lack of sleep, prolonged exposure to computer glare and a high sodium diet, these common beauty issues are caused by genetics and aging. Dark under eyes and puffiness are not serious health concerns, but they can make you look tired, unhealthy or older. Below are simple remedies that will rejuvenate skin, reduce puffiness and lighten under eye discoloration:

Raw Coconut Oil

Unprocessed coconut oil is packed with essential nutrients and antioxidants that nourish skin and reduce discoloration. Applying just a couple of drops of raw coconut oil will smooth out the skin and diminish fine lines, especially crow’s feet. To use raw coconut to banish puffiness and dark under eyes, dab the oil directly on the skin around the eyes. Let the oil sit on the skin for several hours before rinsing off. Do this two to three times for best results.

Tea Bags

The stimulant caffeine in tea bags will shrink the blood vessels, drain fluid that accumulated on the under eyes and even out the skin tone. The tannins in tea help reduce puffiness while promoting faster cell repair. Chilling the tea in the fridge helps tone the skin and shrinks the pores too!

To use tea bags for healthy-looking under eyes, chill two moist green or black tea in the fridge for half an hour. Wash your face and apply the chilled tea bags over your eyes. Do this twice or thrice per week.

Cold Compress

Cold compress is an effective way to banish dark circles and reduce puffiness. It helps constrict the blood vessels while draining fluid under the eyes. To use a cold compress to eliminate dark circles and puffiness, get a clean washcloth and soak it in cold water or chilled milk. Apply the washcloth over the eyelids for at least 3 minutes. If the coldness of the washcloth fades, just keep saturating the fabric with cold liquid.

You can also get an ice cube, wrap it in a clean washcloth and apply over the eyelids. Do this three to four times a week for best result.

Turmeric

Turmeric is packed with a host of nutrients including anti-inflammatory chemicals and antioxidants. This spice works great in banishing dark circles and hydrating the delicate skin around the eyes. Even better, applying turmeric regularly can delay the signs of aging!

To use turmeric as an under eye treatment, mix two teaspoons of turmeric powder and pineapple juice to create a thick paste. Apply a small amount of the paste to the under eyes. Make sure to avoid the mucous membranes to prevent irritation. Leave the paste to dry for about 10 to 20 minutes. With a soft, damp cloth, remove the paste.

Ripe Avocado

Avocado is loaded with beneficial fats and moisturizing compounds that will lighten the skin under the eyes and reduce puffiness. To use avocado as a skin lightening treatment, scoop a tablespoon of avocado flesh in a clean mixing bowl. Add chilled milk to create a thick paste. Now apply the paste directly under the eyes and leave it on for at least 10 minutes. Rinse off with tepid water.
