Most people develop wrinkles once they hit their 30s. This is the point where collagen production is reduced significantly. Suddenly, you see fine lines around the eyes. Once wrinkles set in, it’s extremely difficult to eliminate them. So the best defense against aging is prevention. In today’s post, we are listing down simple tricks that will help delay the signs of aging:

Minimize Sun Exposure

One of the most common causes of aging is overexposure to the sun. That’s why sunblock, sunglasses, and wide-brim hats are a great investment to keep the skin wrinkle-free. Ultraviolet rays from the sun destroy the skin tissues. This leads to sagginess, dryness, and photo-aging.

If you can minimize sun exposure do so. If not, never head out without wearing sunscreen. Do not scrimp on the product, apply sunscreen generously and reapply every two hours. Wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from UVA/UVB rays and a wide brim hat to protect the skin from the neck down.

Drink 8 Glasses of Water Everyday

Hydration is a must for a younger-looking skin! Water nourishes the cells, flushes out toxins and retains skin elasticity. So always drink 8 glasses of water every day. Drink more if you can, you will never get enough of it. One trick to make yourself drink water is to consume a glass of water before a meal and after. Another is to skip flavored drinks or sodas and stick to water when eating out.

Never Smoke

If you smoke cigarettes, now’s the best time to quit. Just like ultraviolet rays, smoking ages the skin. Cigarette smoke contains 8,000 dangerous chemicals – 7 of which are known carcinogen. These compounds break down skin tissues, resulting in premature aging. The constant huffing also leads to laugh lines and fine lines around the mouth. Smoking also reduces blood circulation, leading to lackluster, flaky skin.

A Regular Skin Care Regimen

Make it a point to maintain the skin’s youthfulness by using the right products. Start with a mild cleanser that does not strip the skin of moisture. Follow up with a hydrating toner or emulsion to prep the skin for the moisturizer. Now, apply an anti-aging moisturizer on the face and neck. Apply an eye cream for good measure. If you are in your 20s, an eye cream isn’t needed. Top it off with a beauty oil or a serum. These skin care products will hydrate, repair and improve the skin’s cellular structure. It will restore radiance and luminosity too!

Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle complements a good skin care routine. Always eat healthily and cleanly. We recommend a diet full of vegetables and fruits. Fresh produce keeps the skin clear, smooth and younger-looking! Fruits and vegetables contain skin friendly bioactive such as phytochemicals and antioxidants. These compounds protect the body from free radical damage – a factor that causes aging.

Avoid fatty, greasy fast foods and snacks whenever you can. Minimize your consumption of sugary or salty treats too. Finally, exercise regularly.

De-Stress

Stress also causes skin aging! Ideally, you want to remove yourself from stressful situations. If you can’t, find ways to cope. Meditation, yoga and a good massage after a long day at work are perfect ways to de-stress. Working out helps release pent-up tension too! Exercising also tones the skin and flushes out toxins.
