There are times when no matter how much effort we put in exercises, we can’t seem to get the results we want. For those who workout to stay fit, this can be discouraging and frustrating. But to maintain a slender figure, you have to understand how your body works. From here, you can figure out the right approach to staying fit. In today’s post, we go in-depth on what’s keeping you from achieving the body you want:
Burning Less Than You Consume
The most common misconception about working out is that you can eat whatever you like after. Exercising is not an excuse to stuff your face after going to the gym. That’s not how it works! In order to stay thin, you have to burn off more than you consume.
The excess calories from the food you eat are converted into stored fat. The body will use the stored fat only when needed. And so stored fat accumulate in various parts of the body – including the belly, thighs, and buttocks. If you suddenly go on a restrictive diet, the body will try to hold on to as much stored fat as it possibly can. This makes it extra hard to lose weight. So imagine if you work out and compensate for your hard work by binge eating hours later. You might’ve burned off some calories, but you’re still not addressing the real issue: turning stored fat into muscles. To do this, you have to reduce your caloric intake. That means adopting a healthy diet and exercising at the same time.
Finding comfort in food goes back to childhood when as children, we find happiness in eating. We eat to make ourselves feel better. This is ingrained deep into our minds. If you don’t overcome this, you will turn to an emotional eater once you reach adulthood.
It’s hard to change a bad habit, but it’s possible. Practice self-control, look for alternative ways to expend stress or anxiety. For instance, if you had a particularly brutal day at work, why not get a massage at your favorite spa instead of going straight to McDonalds for two quarter pounders? Or if you are nervous, why not try exercising to release stress instead of raiding the fridge?
If you cannot correct your bad habit, the least you can do is to replace unhealthy food choices with healthy ones. For example, instead of noshing on burgers, make your own veggie burgers. These alternatives are lower in fat and higher in nutritional value. Instead of mindlessly snacking on potato chips, make your own kale chips.
You are Lazy
If you cannot muster the effort to go to the gym, turn any chore into a fitness routine instead. When it comes to fitness, you don’t have to overdo it. To stay fit, you need to have the right mindset. If you don’t, you’ll just go back to old habits. So change your lifestyle gradually. Turn dog walking into a real fat buster. Play catch with your pet, take longer routes, stay active.
We recommend skipping rope whenever possible. Skip rope while waiting for the bus or after work. Instead of using the elevator, take the stairs instead. Once you get the hang of it, your mindset will start changing. You become less lazy and more focused on achieving a strong, healthy body!
