2. Turkey Sandwich
Calories: 182-186 per serving
It will be like Thanksgiving every night – minus the lengthy food preparations, excess calories, and feasting. A turkey sandwich makes an awesome bedtime snack because it easily fills a hungry stomach and satisfies any craving for meat. To make this sandwich, you need a slice of pumpernickel bread, a quarter slice of Swiss cheese, and half a slice of turkey breast.
Pumpernickel bread is made of whole grains, particularly rye meal and rye flour. Like any fiber-rich food it will keep you full overnight. Even though it’s sweet, pumpernickel bread contains minimal amounts of sugar that won’t leave you feeling restless before hitting the sack, or make you worry that you may gain weight. A slice of this German bread will only take an 80-calorie toll on your diet.
Turkey is a wonderful addition to this snack because it’s a lean meat. The breast is the best part to eat because it has the lowest amount of calories compared to other parts of the turkey. Roasted turkey breast has 153 calories without the skin and 160 calories with skin. Cutting it in 1/2 slices reduces it to around 76 to 80 calories per piece. As for the Swiss cheese, a quarter slice only amounts to 26 calories. Cheese and turkey meat are ideal for bedtime since they both contain the sleep-inducing amino acid, tryptophan.
