Do you suffer from acne, recurring breakouts or dull skin? You don’t have to spend cash on expensive acne treatments and creams to keep the skin clear and smooth! Lemon juice is an inexpensive but often-overlooked home remedy for all kinds of skin problems. In today’s post, we are listing down ways lemon juice addresses various skin concerns:

Acne

Acne is a severe skin breakout characterized by the development of painful cystic pimples, blackheads and white heads all over the face and body. The hallmarks of acne include greasy skin, large pimples, and scarred skin. This condition is usually caused by genetics but other factors – such as stress and puberty – can also trigger an acne breakout.

Lemon juice helps dry out pimples, bring down inflammation and purge the skin of blackheads and whiteheads. The citric acid in lemon helps control oil production and rebalances the flora of the skin. To use lemon juice as an acne treatment, just dab a cotton ball saturated with lemon juice on the affected area, once at night.

Pimples

Pimples are occasional skin breakouts caused by clogged pores. The citric acid in lemon juice helps dry out pimples and eliminate redness. Lemon juice is a natural astringent. It will eliminate microbes that irritate inflamed skin. The natural fruit acids in lemon also slough off dead skin cells, helping you achieve clear, luminous skin!

To use lemon extract to treat pimples, just apply the juice directly on the pimple overnight. The pimple should shrink in size the next day. You can also mix yogurt with lemon extract to create a treatment mask. Apply the mixture on freshly cleansed face and leave it on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with tepid water and say hello to clear, beautiful skin!

Blackheads and Whiteheads

Blackheads are clogged sebum mixed with dead skin cells darkened by contact with air. On the other hand, whiteheads are sebum-clogged sebaceous duct of the skin. Both types of skin issues can cause breakouts.

Lemon juice contains citric acids that melt hardened sebum and banish dead skin cells. It contains natural antimicrobial and antiseptic properties that kill harmful microbes that cause skin inflammation.

To use lemon juice to reduce blackheads and whiteheads, slice a small piece of lemon. Rub the lemon slice across the face ridden with blackheads. Leave the juice on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with tepid water.

Dull Skin

Dull skin is caused by the accumulation of dead skin cells. Lemon juice “melts” dead skin cells and brings luminosity back to the skin. It sloughs off dead skin cells while shrinking the pores and refining the skin texture. To use lemon juice to bring life back to dull skin, mix equal parts lemon juice and honey. Apply on cleansed face and leave it on for at least 10 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Hyperpigmentation

Dark spots, blemishes, freckles and dark under eyes are caused by hyperpigmentation. This occurs when the skin produces more melanin on specific areas of the skin that are exposed to sunlight. Good thing lemon juice helps fade out brown spots, dark under eyes and blemishes. Just apply a fresh slice of lemon to the affected area and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Do this twice per week to even out the skin tone.
