In a separate study, researchers found that the antioxidant levels in animals with induced diabetes increased after taking Guyabano extract. The same study concluded that the juice extract of Guyabano reversed liver damage caused by high glucose in the blood. The findings suggested that the Guyabano fruit could reverse oxidative stress and repair hepatic tissues.

A study published in Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that Guyabano extract aggressively attacked Herpes simplex virus-1 or HVS-1. Although more research is needed to determine how compounds in Guyabano was able to ward off HVS-1, the results are promising.

In a study published in Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, researchers found that Guyabano extract and seeds contain potent anti-bacterial agents that attacked Staph aureus and Vibrio cholera bacteria. Although the antibacterial activities found in Guyabano extracts and seeds were not demonstrated, it’s a promising development that adds to the many health benefits of drinking Guyabano juice.
