Despite what many skin care companies claim, there is no cream on earth that can truly smooth our wrinkles, especially deep ones around the mouth and eyes. However, certain types of derma treatments can rejuvenate the facial skin and blur out wrinkles. Below are a few of derma treatments that can take years off your face:
Prescribed Retinol Cream
The difference between over-the-counter retinoid cream and prescribed retinoid cream is vast. As we age, the collagen level in the skin starts to drop. Collagen is a protein that keeps the skin plump and youthful looking. Without it, the skin starts drying out and creasing.
Retinoid or vitamin A contains compounds that stimulate the regeneration of collagen. OTC retinol is formulated with additives that dull the potency of vitamin A. This can affect the effectiveness of the cream. Unlike OTC retinoid cream, prescribed retinoid cream can smooth out superficial wrinkles and restore the skin’s natural glow.
Carbon Dioxide Laser Resurfacing
If you have deep wrinkles and you want to achieve dramatic results, then consider carbon dioxide laser resurfacing. This hour-long treatment requires a laser that sears the epidermis until it reaches the superficial layer of the dermis. The laser light will destroy damaged collagen and stimulate the skin to re-generate new collagen.

But because the treatment requires searing the skin, the procedure itself is painful. You’d have to be sedated to go through every session. Also, after-care treatment is needed to heal the skin. Expect the entire face to resemble that of an open wound for at least 2 weeks. The skin has to be soaked in ice cold water every few hours followed by a healing ointment to prevent scars and infections.
Cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid Injections
This treatment requires quick shots of Hyaluronic-based fillers into the facial folds and creases to smooth out wrinkles. Hyaluronic is a carbohydrate polymer used as a lubricating component. It’s also added to beauty products because of its ability to draw moisture into the skin. When injected directly under the skin, hyaluronic instantly plumps up deep wrinkles. The body then absorbs the compound. The time it takes for a touch-up will depend on the amount of hyaluronic acid used and the depth of the wrinkles.
Chemical Peel
A chemical peel is a popular anti-aging treatment that uses a chemical solution made with either acidic chemicals or fruit extracts. The fruit extracts are acidic to melt off the layer of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. There are different types of chemical peels to choose from, each one differs in strength and peeling abilities.
A light chemical peel will remove the top layers of the skin to rejuvenate the epidermis and fade out blemishes. A trained clinician or a physician administers this treatment. Stronger chemical peel is applied by a trained physician to smooth out deeper wrinkles.
IPL™ Photo-Facial
This treatment utilizes Intense Pulsed Light or IPL to plump up the skin and fade out wrinkles. IPL photo facial can also repair the skin from sun damage and address a wide range of skin issues including freckles, rosacea, facial veins, and brown spots. Because IPL™ Photo-Facial is mild, there is no downtime after the treatment. You can go back to your normal activities after an IPL treatment.
