The littlest of things add up. This is especially true when it comes to gaining weight. Certain habits that we don’t think much about could contribute to weight gain. For instance, eating sweets or salty snacks could trigger overeating! Apart from working out and adopting a balanced diet, try these weird yet effective weight loss tricks:

Taking “Alco-holiday”

Did you know alcoholic beverages contain a lot of calories? Alcohol shares the same structure as sugar. Drinking alcoholic beverages trigger the same insulin resistance that increase weight gain. Even the littlest serving of Mojito is extremely high in calories with little to no nutritional benefits. One of the best (and most effective) ways to keep the pounds off is to abstain from drinking. If you must, save drinking on special occasions. You can also replace alcoholic drinks with white wine spritzers.

Eat Hearty Breakfast

It might seem counterintuitive but eating a big breakfast may help you lose weight. A recent study conducted by researchers of The Doctors tracked the progress of participants divided into two groups. The first group consumed 700 calories at breakfast, 500 calories at lunch and 200 calories at dinner. The other group consumed 200 calories at breakfast, 500 calories at lunch and 700 at dinner. Participants from the first group lost 18 pounds while those in the second group lost only 7 pounds!

Tie A Ribbon

… Around the waist! According to fitness expert Valerie Orsoni’s book, “Le Petit Secret,” French women often tie a ribbon around their waist and under their clothes every time they go out for dinner. This helps them prevent overeating. When the ribbon starts feeling tighter, they stop eating. It’s a great trick if you’re serious about losing weight!

Install a Mirror in the Dining Area

Try hanging a mirror oppose the seating area of your dining table. This will make you conscious of your eating habit. And it’s backed by science! A study found that eating in front of mirrors cuts the consumption of calories by nearly one-third! Researchers explained that when you see yourself as you eat, you subconsciously remind yourself of your weight loss goals. And this inhibits you from eating more.

Have Soup Instead

Soup is yummy and filling. But did you know it also suppresses the appetite? That’s because soup contains both liquids and solids. Eating a soup before a meal cuts your calorie consumption by whopping 20%! If you replace your regular meal with vegetable soup, you lower your consumption of carbohydrates and increase the nutritional value of your meal!

Sniffing Fruits

Did you know sniffing specific fruits could suppress the appetite too? In a study conducted by Dr. Alan R. Hirsch of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, he found that individuals who sniffed banana, apple or peppermint before eating lost an average of 30 pounds. The research involved more than 3,000 volunteers.

Splitting Meals

Another great way to watch what you eat is to split your meals with a friend. By splitting your meals, you consume fewer calories. You (and your friend) will lose weight significantly within weeks of splitting meals!
