Let’s face it, there are thousands of weight loss options on the market right now that it’s hard to tell which ones work and which ones don’t. Weight loss hypnosis seems like a wacky concept, but practitioners swear by it. The process involved tapping into the subconscious and re-shaping thoughts about food to boost weight loss. Sounds interesting enough but does it work?

According to Mayo Clinic, some tests show that the method promote slight weight loss, an average of 6 pounds. However, the quality of these tests make it hard for health experts to determine the effectiveness of hypnosis in accelerating weight loss. That said, if you are willing to give weight loss hypnosis a try, don’t forget to keep these important factors in mind:

It won’t Work for Everyone

Do note that hypnosis won’t work for all people. Some people are easier to hypnotize, others are resistant to it.

Hypnosis works by altering a person’s state of mind. This should be done with a willing, yielding mind. A series of words or phrases are spoken to keep the mind relax. If your mind is open to it, hypnosis will allow the subconscious to take over within seconds of the procedure.

How to know if you’re resistant to hypnosis? If you feel that the concept is ridiculous to begin with, then a hypnosis practitioner might not be able to hypnotize you.

Do Your Research

Don’t make the mistake of doing business with a quack doctor. Work with a legitimate practitioner with years of experience in the field. Make sure to check the credentials of the practitioner before you go ahead with your plans. Look for certifications, specializations, and genuine success stories before making any commitments.

It pays to be very comfortable with the practitioner too. Before and during the hypnosis session, you’ll have to share deeply personal information about yourself, your struggles with food and your concerns about life in general. If you are uncomfortable with the practitioner in any way, stop, move on and continue with your search.

Don’t Stop Working Out and Eating Healthy

Having weight loss hypnosis done is not a reason to stop exercising regularly or eating healthy foods. You will still need exercise and a healthy diet to maintain your weight. If you are not deeply committed into eating healthy and adopting an active lifestyle, no amount of hypnosis will help you stay in shape.

It’s not Magic

Forget about fantastical claims and promises. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Hypnosis will not make 20 pounds disappear just like that. It only works effectively if coupled with regular exercise and a low-calorie diet. Making better lifestyle changes can boost your weight loss results too.

Remember, weight loss hypnosis is not the solution to obesity. If it is, then all overweight people would’ve turned to it to lose weight. Instead of looking at hypnosis as a solution to your weight problems, think of it as an additional strategy that can improve your relationship with food.
