Whether you’re looking to lose a couple of pounds before the holiday season or you’re an athlete wanting to boost your performance, a good fat burner is always a useful supplement to take in conjunction with workout and a healthy diet. But the market is inundated with so many fat burner brands that it’s hard to choose the ones that will give real results.

Unfortunately, most fat burners—cheaper weight loss supplements, in particular—tend to over-promise and under-deliver. So what should you look for in a good fat burner? If you’re shopping around for weight loss supplements, keep these things in mind:

It Should Be 100% Natural

Some types of weight loss supplements are made with synthetic compounds that do the body more harm than good. Sure, these supplements can help you shed pounds of weight but they could also cause serious health problems!

It’s always better to choose products that are made with 100% natural ingredients. Of course, some weight loss products just slap on “100% natural” or “100% nature-derived” labels but aren’t as forthcoming when it comes to the ingredients. It’s best to do your own research first to determine what types of natural ingredients you should be looking for in a good fat burner.

It Should Be FDA-Approved

It’s equally important to choose fat burners that have the Food and Drug Administration seal of approval. You don’t want to put your health at risk when you’re trying to lose weight. The FDA usually has stringent guidelines on ingredients that go into every medication, including fat burners and supplements. To be on the safe side, consider taking only FDA-approved fat burners. This goes for all kinds of fat burners, regardless of the active ingredients.

It Should Be High-Quality

Yes, even some branded diet and fat-burner supplements are guilty of adding binders and fillers to their products and passing them off as “high-quality” or “100% pure.” Don’t be fooled by what you see on the labels, it’s best to consult an expert or do your own research to determine the validity of such claims. With so many fat burners being sold on the market, it’s harder to know for sure which brands do stick to their “high-quality” claim.

For example, garcinia cambogia supplements should contain at least 50% pure garcinia cambogia extracts to become effective in burning fat. On average, most garcinia cambogia supplements offer 60% cambogia garcinia extracts in every bottle. Any percentage fewer than 50% is ineffective in burning excess fat. Low-quality garcinia cambogia supplements contain binders and fillers. These compounds will minimize the effectiveness of the supplement.

It Shouldn’t Compromise Health

Most fat burners—including authentic 100% natural ones—will come with annoying symptoms ranging from dry mouth to palpitations. Others are known to cause severe nausea, headaches, diarrhea, constipation, abnormal heart rate, and/or hyperactivity.

It’s important to choose fat burners that will not aggravate any existing health problems you have nor cause severe symptoms that could disrupt everyday living. You want a fat burner that’s not only effective in helping you lose weight but also does not harm your body in any way.
