What to Look for in a Salon

Whether you just moved or you are ready to move on from your old salon, finding the perfect salon will depend on your own preferences. But to help narrow down your search, we’ve developed a checklist of all the factors you have to consider when you’re on the hunt for a new salon to try:

Check the Location

One of the first things you have to consider is the location of the salon. Ideally, you want the salon to be located in a convenient spot close to your home. You don’t want to go through great lengths just to get a trim or a manicure! However, if you don’t mind driving for three hours for a specific stylist, then it might be worth the trip. The salon should be located in a great neighborhood that’s safe.

Appearance

First impressions are important especially if you are willing to trust a complete stranger to do your hair! The perfect salon must look good on the outside and the inside. The entire salon must be neat, organized and tidy. The stylists must be professional and courteous.

Cleanliness is extremely important because it speaks volumes about the service stylists provide. You don’t want to see hair on the floor, unwashed color bowls and brushes sitting out for other customers to see. The capes, towels and hair products must be clean and organized too.

Quality Service

When it comes right down to it, the service quality is what you should focus on. The stylists must be polite and inviting. They should know all the latest trends but are flexible enough to customize the cut according to your preference. They may provide suggestions, but they should not be pushy. They should engage in casual conversation but not ask intrusive questions.  The stylists should do their jobs with care and dedication. If the staff is unfocused, distracted or gossipy, take that as a hint that the salon might not be for you.  If the stylists never smile or seem impatient as you specify your preferred cuts, then it’s best to move on to a salon that can provide better services.

Reputation

You’d be surprised to know that some of the most popular salons aren’t exactly the friendliest in the neighborhood. Our advice is to do a lot of digging online to check for customer reviews. But instead of going straight to their website, go to online forums or messenger boards. These online platforms are filled with reviews from real people. From the comments alone, you can get an idea if a certain salon meets your requirements. By reading the reviews, you’ll be able to anticipate the kind of service a specific salon provides. And after getting your hair cut, why not provide a short review on these online forums as well. This way, you’ll be helping out other potential customers too!

Product Marketing

Some salons are notorious for pushing their own products to customers. If you feel pressured by the staff to purchase these products then it might not be worth going back for another visit. Unless you like these products, of course. But even if you do, a great salon should be managed by stylists who know how to give great advice and market their products without being overly pushy.
